Peter Manning Robinson at Chaton

Today Dan and Mike joined Otto D’Agnolo at his Chaton Studios in Phoenix Arizona for a recording session with Composer Peter Manning Robinson.

Robinson has had a good deal of success as a composer for film and TV, most notably for his work on “With out a Trace”. Today was the first of two sessions at Chaton, involving a 16 member string section as well as a small brass and wood wind section under the direction of Warren Coen, who was also the conductor for the Arnell Symphonies project last year.

For the tracking session, we used:
Royer SF-24 Stereo Ribbon Microphone
Royer R-122 (Pair) Ribbon Microphones
DPA 4021 (Pair) Condencer Microphones
Beyer Dynamic M-160 (Pair) Ribbon Microphones
Neumann U87 (Pair) Condenser Microphone
Neumann U89 Condenser Microphone
Millenia Media HV-3D-8DC Pre-Amplifiers
True Systems P2 Analog Pre-Amplifiers
API 512 Pre-Amplifiers
Pro-Tools HD @ 192kHz

The session ran extremely smooth with Dan taking care of the microphones, placement and pre-amps, Otto taking care of the control room, tracking and pro-tools and Mike……well….taking care of EVERYTHING else.

Well be back again tomorrow to finish up.

Book of the Month Club Recomendation

For those who want a real insight in to how to music industry actually works.....we've got a book for you. Chaton Studios owner/producer/engineer Otto D'Agnolo, decided he had some good thoughts, and perhaps they should be in a book to share with the world, "The Music Business Is burning down, thank god".

Why should you care what Otto has to say? Check out some of his accomplishments:

(List copied from http://www.ottod.com/)
Emmy Award for writing "How Does It Feel"
RIAA Platinum Award for "Grand Champ" by DMX
RIAA Platinum Award for "She Rides Wild Horses" by Kenny Rogers
RIAA Platinum Award for "The Great Depression" by DMX
RIAA Gold Award for "Finally" by Ce Ce Peniston
Celebrity Judge for Fox TV's "American Idol" regional preliminaries in 2002, 2003 & 2004.
Participated as guest on the producers panel at the 2002 NXNE International Music Conference in Toronto, Canada.
Currently a voting member of NARAS
Owner of Chaton Studios in Phoenix, AZ
Owner of Donyolo Music, a BMI affilated music publishing company.
Owner of Donyolo Media Corp., an artist management and music production company.

And for those who are not in the know...Chaton Studios has been one of the most successful studios Arizona has ever seen. Make no mistake; this is a PROFESSIONAL studio, not a guy with a couple of toys. This book is about as blunt as it can get. The music industry is changing, record companies of the day are not going to survive by doing business as usual. Artists these days must do more to get heard, but it pays off. Artists now have many more avenues for their music to be heard, and if people like them, they can make it happen without the Record Companies. I highly recomend this book to any band or musician. It's an entertaining and easy read, and the information it provides will provide some valuable insight.http://www.ottod.com/ Also, this book contains a CD by Caesar Bach, recorded at Chaton by Otto. The CD is worth the price of the book alone. The music is extremely creative and breaks the molds set by the recording industry. Defiantly worth checking out. http://www.caesarbach.com/
