Today Dan spent the afternoon working with Scott Youngs putting together the first half of his recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations. The recording was made a couple of weeks ago in Scotts home on his beautiful HamburgStienway using our Royer R-122's with the Millennia Media Microphone Pre-Amplifiers and Apogee AD-16x Analog to Digital Converters.
So far it has been a fun project to work on and listen to. Scotts performing and the sound of his piano are a beautiful compliment to these works that were origionaly intended for Harpsichord.....History Lesson.
Aparently the variations were a comissioned by a Russion Ambasador Count Kaiserling, who was often ill and struck with insomnia. Johann Gottlieb Goldberg lived in the house with Kaiserling and would be summoned to play in an antechamber durring Kaiserlings insomnia. It is believed that Goldberd was the first to play Bach's works and as such, they were named after him.
We will be back with Scott tomorow to finish putting the works together for a total of 30 seperate variations.
