Tribute to Roy Orbison

This evening, Dan was on –location at the new Tempe Center for the Arts doing a full 16-track mobile recording for Arizona State University’s Center for Film, Media and Popular Culture as they pay tribute to Roy Orbison.

This was a unique experience for a few great reasons:

First, Mouse Recording became the FIRST recording company to make a full recording in the new venue. As most theatrical venues do, this one has an isolated “split” for a stage monitor console, although NO ONE has ever used it, so we were very fortunate that it worked well……although we were prepared for it not to work.

Second, this was the first commercial venture for the Mouse Mobile Rig v2.0. This rig has been out on some private ventures over the last few weeks for testing and this evening it performed flawlessly as expected. The new rig features 8 Channels of Millennia Media Mic Pre-Amplifiers, 8 Channels of True Systems Precision 8 Mic Pre-Amplifiers, Apogee AD-16x Analog to digital converters and much more. It Is truly a world class system.

Finally and certainly most important, the ensembles were fantastic. The show opened with the Truly Lover Trio, a simply amazing Roy Orbison Tribute Band from Las Angeles, California and then closed with the Herberger String Quartet (actually they had 4 strings and a percussionist so I’m going with Quintet) performing a commissioned work entitled “Suite on Tunes by Roy Orbison” by composer Kim Scharnberg. Both ensembles created such a wonderful diversity in musical culture.
