Tribute to Roy Orbison

This evening, Dan was on –location at the new Tempe Center for the Arts doing a full 16-track mobile recording for Arizona State University’s Center for Film, Media and Popular Culture as they pay tribute to Roy Orbison.

This was a unique experience for a few great reasons:

First, Mouse Recording became the FIRST recording company to make a full recording in the new venue. As most theatrical venues do, this one has an isolated “split” for a stage monitor console, although NO ONE has ever used it, so we were very fortunate that it worked well……although we were prepared for it not to work.

Second, this was the first commercial venture for the Mouse Mobile Rig v2.0. This rig has been out on some private ventures over the last few weeks for testing and this evening it performed flawlessly as expected. The new rig features 8 Channels of Millennia Media Mic Pre-Amplifiers, 8 Channels of True Systems Precision 8 Mic Pre-Amplifiers, Apogee AD-16x Analog to digital converters and much more. It Is truly a world class system.

Finally and certainly most important, the ensembles were fantastic. The show opened with the Truly Lover Trio, a simply amazing Roy Orbison Tribute Band from Las Angeles, California and then closed with the Herberger String Quartet (actually they had 4 strings and a percussionist so I’m going with Quintet) performing a commissioned work entitled “Suite on Tunes by Roy Orbison” by composer Kim Scharnberg. Both ensembles created such a wonderful diversity in musical culture.

Yea!!! New Toy Day

It’s been a little while since we have had one of these, however with some very cool projects around the corner it just made sense to spend some money. So what did we get? Take a look….

True Systems Precision 8 Microphone Pre-Amplifiers

The nice new Red thingie in the picture is 8 channels of True Systems amazingly transparent pre-amps. This increases our mobile rig from 8 channels to 16 channels of amazing world class pre’s.

What else did we get…..Some extremely cool DPA 4021’s in a Stereo Kit with mounds designed specifically for pianos and string instruments? We have borrowed these many times in the past from our good friend Dave Temby at Clearwing and we are now fortunate enough to own a set. When it comes to live piano recordings these mic’s are second to none.

This equipment will greatly increase the quality of service we provide and in the near future will be used for our projects with The Tempe Center for the Arts and Arizona Music Fest.

Dobson Wind Ensemble at AMEA

Today Dan was back at the Mesa Marriott convention center for the Arizona Music Educators Association anual conference.

Today was another great treat as the Dobson Wind Ensemble performed for a packed house along side the Deer Valley Jazz Ensemble.

Following the performance the room was buzzing with amazmement in how fine the Wind Ensemble performed, given they are considered the second band at Dobson. Truth be known, in many respects they are on par, and Rob Lubbers does an amazing job with his ensemble that greatly contributes to the success of the Symphonic Band.

Oh, and the Deer Vally Jazz ensemble is amazing.

Dobson performs at AMEA

This morning Dan was on-location at the Arizona Music Educators Association to record the Dobson Symphonic Band as they performed for a standing room only audience of Arizonas music educators. The ensemble performed very well and even had the honor of being conducted for their first number by Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser.

Scott and Dr. Tim

This morning Dan and Mike were at the Mesa Marriot, filming an additional component for the Scott Lang Leadership DVD that involved a one on one interview between Scott and well known director and leadership speaker Dr. Lim Lautzenheiser. We filmed for 30 minutes and gathered some amazing material that will accompany Scotts upcoming DVD.

Take two for Scott Lang

This evening Dan, Mike and a new addition Kyle were with Scott Lang at McKlintock high School filming Scott for his upcoming leadership DVD. You may recall we shot Scott a few months ago and after some editing, we came to the decision that Scott had more to offer, so…Take Two. The students were fantastic and gave us a few hours of great material to work with.
